Three striking design and architecture books will upgrade your library right in time for winter

Every season calls for a refresh, and with that, some new and inspiring design and architecture books. Luckily, three new tomes with Los Angeles ties have arrived. First up, bicoastal designer Tim Campbell, who has offices in New York City and L.A., has released Intentional Beauty ($75, Pointed Leaf Press), the first major book to survey his 25-year career. The Sliver Lake resident—who’s known for high-end custom residential projects, renovations and commercial work across the globe—is also well-versed in preservation, something evident in photos of Richard Neutra’s Singleton House, which he and his firm, Studio Tim Campbell, lovingly restored.Next, L.A.-based architects—and partners in marriage and work—M. Brian Tichenor and Raun Thorp have been dubbed Hollywood’s best-kept secret for their luxurious landscape and interior design, and with their new book, Outside In: The Gardens and Houses of Tichenor & Thorp ($60, Vendome), readers will get a peek inside some of their most exceptional projects. The duo has collaborated with many of the industry’s top interior designers, including Kelly Wearstler, Suzanne Rheinstein and John Cottrell. Clients such as film industry vets, museum heads and business moguls remain nameless—the firm takes their clientele’s privacy seriously—but Roger Davies’ vivid photography of the team’s projects speaks volumes, as do Tichenor’s accompanying watercolors, drawings and plans. Additionally, essays on pattern, light, color and more provide insight into the thinking behind the design.

Lastly, interior designer Tom Stringer closed his L.A. office a few years ago in order to travel the world four months per annum, and his new tome, An Adventurous Life: Global Interiors by Tom Stringer ($60, Images Publishing) shows how international experiences have influenced his unique aesthetic.
